Last night, I caught a re-air of former-Rep. and current Director of the Department of Agriculture Dan Newhouse on KUOW. Listen here.

It’s a fascinating interview if you’re interested in agricultural issues or eating food.

- Newhouse says there needs to be a serious revamp of the “guest worker” program.
- He said the average farmer is 57 years old — a problem for the future of food production in the country.
- The recent international trucking dispute has led to big tariffs on Washington-grown produce in other markets. If that isn’t resolved soon — cherry harvest is fast approaching — it could spell trouble for Washington-grown produce.
