The Department of Licensing announced today that they’re going over their budget allotment, trying ot determine which offices to close and which to keep. They may be able to save five rural offices that were previously slated for closure.

The original idea was to consolidate offices and bring more services online. Some offices will still be closed, including Bellevue, Olympia, Bothell, East Seattle, West Tacoma as well as limited service branches in Yakima and Vancouver. Those are each within 10 miles of other DOL offices. Staff at the closed offices would merge with the office nearest their original office.

Closing offices saves about $2 billion in the 2009-2011 biennium, according to estimates. The department intends to make more services available online to accommodate licensing.
