State Supreme Court: School funding is Constitutional

November 12th, 2009 by Niki Reading | Filed under Uncategorized.

The Supreme Court ruled today that the way the state funds schools — which includes different funding levels depending on where the school district is located — is Constitutional. The ruling reverses an earlier opinion from King County Superior Court.

The lawsuit, brought about by the Federal Way School District, was aimed at leveling the playing field for schools who get less funding in the state’s equation.

Here is the decision.

Rep. Skip Priest told The News Tribune that “surprise” wasn’t the word to describe his feelings — it’s “unbelievable disappointment.”
