DeBolt: We must have healthy education, environment — and jobs

Now it’s Rep. Richard DeBolt’s turn for an opening statement to the House.

“As we head into this next couple of months, Washington state has some challenges ahead of us,” he said. “Our job is to make sure that we can help in the creation of jobs, that we can be there as a tool and an advocate to the businesses of Washington state … we need to understand that our budget is predicated on people working,” he said.

“If we keep going down the road to taxes, it’s going to make us harder and harder to compete,” he said.

“We have to have a strong education system. We have to have a healthy environment. And third, we have to have a healthy business community to pay for those first two things.”

DeBolt said this session will be among the hardest lawmakers have ever faced.
