Rep. DeBolt: “We have to create revenue in the communities”

Rep. Richard DeBolt, at a Republican media availability, said he thinks it’s ironic that the Governor thinks creating government jobs will help rescue the state from the recession. He said private-sector jobs are the ticket to recovery. “We have to create revenue in the communities.”

“Unless we reduce government spending, we are not reforming government. It is as simple as that,” said Sen. Linda Evans Parlette.

Sen. Joe Zarelli said it’s also crucial to budget in terms of the present and future — if the state passes an unsustainable budget, it will only lead to a bigger deficit in the future.

“It’s not just this biennium, it’s the future of all budgets,” he said.

Rep. Dan Kristiansen: “We’ve got some ideas that we’ve been talking about down here for years. We’ve got some new ideas. But the bottom line is that the Governor said now is the time to lead. Now is the time to take some bold steps,” he said — and that might include considering some of the ideas that Republicans have put forward.
