This week on “The Impact”:

Health insurance carriers are scaling back plans and abandoning counties in Washington State.  Leaders from the state health benefit exchange weigh in on what that means for residents.

“They’re extremely nervous about being able to purchase health care if they’re an individual next year.” – Pam MacEwan CEO, Washington State Health Benefit Exchange.

“Wake up let’s start working on this. Let’s start thinking about how we really fix these problems.”  – Bill Hinkle, Board Member, Washington State Health Benefit Exchange.

Later we cover the perils of algae bloom toxins in Washington State from permanent memory loss to life threatening paralysis.

“You can’t ever tell if a shellfish is toxic by looking at the color of the water,” – Jerry Borchert, Marine Toxin Lead, Washington Department of Health.  “If people don’t get life support or oxygen they become so paralyzed they can’t breathe that can result in death in as fast as 15 minutes.”

You’ll also hear an update on the work to finalize state budgets as a July 1st deadline approaches.
