“The Impact” – November 22nd, 2017: New Paid Leave Mandate; Puget Sound No Discharge Zone Rule

This week on “The Impact”:

“Employees will be able to use leave take care of themselves when they’re sick or they’ll be able to take care of a sick family member,” said Elizabeth Smith, Washington Department of Labor and Industries

The start of a new year will bring a new paid leave mandate for employers statewide. Are businesses ready?

 “There are a lot of businesses that paid leave is not something that they offer and it’s something that is going to be very new to them,” said Smith.

  A new state rule would make the  Puget Sound a no discharge zone.

 “It would prohibit the discharge of any sewage within Puget Sound,” said Heather Bartlett, Water Quality Program Manager, Washington State Dept. of Ecology.
